My first UKONS Annual Conference

I must congratulate UKONS on a fantastic October Conference in Brighton. I am a staff nurse working at Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff and this was my first UKONS Conference. I was impressed with the high quality and variety of speakers from those who spoke about “The Soul’s Wisdom” to chemotherapy and research issues. However, the most fascinating and captivating speaker to me was Audrey Arden-Jones who spoke about cancer genetics. I never fully understood genetics, however, following her session I felt I knew more, which made me think about my patients admitted to the ward and how genetics affect them and their families. The breakout sessions were conducted in a manner that were easy to understand and highly professional. I was so pleased to see the sessions I was unable to attend were on a memory stick given when we registered on our first day. The trade exhibition was of a very high standard with exhibitors both friendly and welcoming with plenty of goodies to bring back home too. The Gala Ball on the Thursday night was well organised and a great success; thanks to Cheryl Vidall and I helping out the ABBA girls on stage with our rendition of Mamma Mia. We were so good. Ha ha. I wasn’t a member of UKONS before I attended the conference. However, before I left I completed my application and now am a proud member of UKONS and EONS. I look forward to receiving my first newsletter and seeing you all again at the conference next year. Best Wishes for the Future Clare Churcher Junior Oncology Practitioner Velindre Cancer Centre, Cardiff
