8 April 2021
As we move towards our second virtual conference, taking place on 11th to 13th November 2021, UKONS members are invited to submit their abstracts for either a poster and/or an oral presentation.
At the 2020 conference the poster presentations were one of the strongest elements of the event, lending themselves perfectly to the virtual format. The authors of some of the posters were invited to present orally which generated a programme with subjects ranging from considering the feasibility of cancer nurse telephone triage for cancer referrals to setting up a ‘research café’ where researchers could meet patients in a relaxed environment.
Last year we learned that the format of the UKONS conference allows nurses to submit their work in poster form in a straightforward manner and at a lower cost than a face-to-face conference. In many ways this is an ideal introduction to presenting at conference in a supportive environment without the need to travel long distances.
As is traditional for our conference, prizes will be awarded for the top three poster presentations and the best from a young or early career cancer nurse/s. In 2020 the winning poster examined the role of the acute oncology team in the stratified management of patients with neutropenic sepsis. The virtual format also allowed the winning posters to be voted for by the delegates themselves.
This year the theme of the conference is ‘Caring Connections’. The abstracts are to be submitted in one of the following categories:
• Education standards for cancer nursing
• Innovations in cancer nursing
• Personalised care and support
Author(s) should submit an abstract to Media1 Productions by 5pm on Friday 30 July 2021.
