The primary aim of the UKONS Young and Early Career Cancer Nurses MIG is to support and develop young and early career cancer nurses working in the UK. Particularly those under the age of 35 or within their first 5 years of working in cancer.
The three representatives, Constance Rowell, Bethany Maynard and Jane Ewang are co-opted members of the Board and are invited to UKONS Board meetings. They also link with the EONS Young Cancer Nurses Network as the UKs representatives.
Constance currently works as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Acute Oncology at the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. Bethany works as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Haematology/Oncology at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. Jane is a Radiotherapy Clinical Nurse Specialist at The Harley Street Clinic, London. (link to board page).
The network runs an educational event yearly aimed YCN/ECNs in collaboration with educational institutes in the UK, focusing on topics of interest, career advice and networking opportunities. The first event ‘Developing Your Role as a Cancer Nurse’ was held in 2019 in collaboration with Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust Cancer Academy and in 2020 The Royal Marsden School hosted a virtual evening around the events of 2020 as well as initiatives to promote and progress cancer nurses. This year the event will be run in collaboration with the Christie School of Oncology on the 13th October 2021, the theme is ‘Connecting with the future’.
The UKONS Young and Early Career Cancer Nurses Network representatives are happy to be contacted by members and can be reached via the UKONS secretariat on firstname.lastname@example.org.
